International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) is the largest and most comprehensive education initiative of the compost industry. It is celebrated each year in the first full week of May.

Join us for a week full of activities, education awareness and events promoting the benefits of composting and the environmental importance diverting organic waste from our landfills.

What’s Happening?

  • Learn to Compost – Workshops – MMSB is hosting workshops to help Newfoundlanders and Labradorians get the most out of backyard composting!
  • 2015 Municipal Backyard Composting Program – MMSB has once again partnered with several communities across the province to offer backyard compost bins to residents of those communities at a reduced rate. Participating communities will also be hosting Learn to Compost sessions.
  • School Composting – Our waste reduction experts will be out and about visiting schools and daycares, teaching our youth about composting!
  • MUN Botanical Garden – MMSB has teamed up with our longtime partner to promote backyard composting as a means of diverting 30% of our daily waste and to help create healthy gardens.
