Special Events

During the year, MMSB celebrates several special weeks that promote sustainable waste management practices. MMSB also participates in many special events throughout the year.

June 5-11, 2017 is Canadian Environment Week

Canadian Environment Week is celebrated annually during the first week of June. MMSB is proud to help preserve, protect and restore our environment, as well as celebrate the progress that has been made. Canadian Environment Week should not only inspire us to help the environment, but also encourage us to continue our efforts throughout the year.

This is a time for individuals, communities, schools and businesses to help make a difference. You can do your part by planting trees in your community, picking up litter in a nature trail or even riding your bike to school!

International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) is the largest and most comprehensive education initiative of the compost industry. It is celebrated each year in the first full week of May. Join us for a week full of activities, education awareness and events promoting the benefits of composting and the environmental importance of diverting organic waste from our landfills.

  • Waste Reduction Week is October 17-23, 2016

MMSB is proud to be a provincial partner of Waste Reduction Week in Canada.  WRW is held in the third week of October each year.

Waste Reduction Week in Canada is a national environmental campaign that builds awareness around issues of sustainable and responsible consumption, encourages choice for more environmentally responsible products/services, and promotes actions that divert more waste from disposal and conserve natural resources.

Waste Reduction Week in Canada’s educational resources provide information and ideas to reduce waste in all facets of daily living. Reducing waste is one solution to the many environmental challenges we face: climate change, water pollution and the depletion of natural resources.
