Avalon Mall
Located in St. John’s, the Avalon Mall is Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest shopping centre with over 140 stores and services. On top of that, they are committed to being an environmentally responsible shopping centre and are constantly looking for greener ways to serve their guests.
Their efforts to reduce waste, conserve water and energy, and improve overall procedures have been recognized by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Newfoundland and Labrador as the recipient of the Level 2 BOMA BESt (Building Environmental Standards) certification. They are the recipients of the ‘2012 Earth Award – Shopping Centre’ and the ‘2013 BOMA NL Award of Excellence – Shopping Centre’. As the first shopping centre to receive either of these accreditations in our province, the Avalon Mall is an eco-leader within the shopping centre industry here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
From LED lightbulbs to water-conserving bathroom fixtures, the Avalon Mall has recently undergone a green-centric renovation as part of their Go Green initiative. Their industrial composter keeps food waste out of landfills, and their idle-free zones and EV charging stations support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
