Clean St. John’s
Clean St. John’s is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring our urban surroundings through community involvement to instill a greater sense of pride and ownership for the City’s streets, parks, and trails. Their mandate is to create and promote a litter-free city through action, advocacy, and education.
With a recently awarded grant from our Solid Waste Management Innovation Fund (SWMIF) to support their new #ButtFreeYYT campaign, they’ve placed 40 cigarette butt receptacles around the core of downtown to collect, count, and recycle cigarette butts into items like park benches and shipping pallets. With an estimated 14,000 cigarette butts littered within the city every day, the environmental impact can really add up – and these receptacles support the reuse of waste materials while keeping our streets and waterways looking beautiful!
