- Fogo Island Inn / Shorefast
Fogo Island Inn is a community asset founded by Shorefast. The Inn is a 100% community enterprise: all operating surpluses are reinvested in the community of Fogo Island through the projects and programs of Shorefast.
From the building to the guest rooms to the kitchen, everything at the Fogo Island Inn was designed with the environment in mind. The outbuilding houses enough thermal roof panels and wood-fired boilers to supply hot water for the in-floor radiant heating of the Inn as well as laundry and kitchen equipment. From sustainable seafood to environmentally-friendly soaps, local options are always sourced before looking out of province. Over 80% of ingredients used by the Inn are fished, farmed, hunted, or harvested from Fogo Island. To achieve a zero-waste kitchen, they have implemented a comprehensive composting program. Administratively, the Inn is also working towards using 100% recycled paper and is lit with 85% LED lightbulbs. And, of course, no single-use plastics – guests are provided with refillable water bottles!
