- Second Harvest
Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue charitable organization. They work with thousands of food businesses from across the supply chain to reduce the amount of food waste, redirecting surplus food to thousands of charities and non-profits across Canada. With donors and recipients across the province, their efforts within Newfoundland and Labrador have rescued over 938,000 lbs of food – and counting!
Second Harvest has been hard at work building a food rescue program in Newfoundland and Labrador. Working with a network of agency partners and food donors across the province, Second Harvest facilitates both the rescue of surplus food that would have been sent to landfills and its redistribution to people facing food insecurity. MMSB was proud to support the work of Second Harvest through its Solid Waste Management Innovation Fund (SWMIF), which helped Second Harvest rescue approximately 50,000 lbs of food from ending up in our landfills.
